About Colonics
What is colon hydrotherapy?
Colon hydrotherapy, also known as a colonic, is a safe and gentle stimulation of the large intestine, a.k.a. the colon, with filtered water. My clients recline on a comfortable massage table during the approximately 45 minute session. Water is slowly introduced into the colon to help stimulate the natural contraction of the colon (peristalsis) as the client breathes and relaxes. When the water is released, it flows out of the body through a tube and is flushed directly into the septic pipes. There is no mess, no running to the restroom. People are relieved at how easy the experience is compared with their expectations!
What are the benefits of colonics?
Colon hydrotherapy supports hydration of the colon, promotes the loosening and elimination of waste matter from the colon, and has successfully been used for occasional constipation. A person on a detox cleanse can often benefit from colon therapy. Most of my clients say they feel cleaner and lighter after their colon therapy sessions.

I'm very regular. Would I benefit from colon therapy?
Yes, and, of course, it depends upon the individual. Colonics allow your body to clear out on a deeper level than your daily bowel movements. Think of the difference between brushing your teeth and having your dentist clean them
Isn't it unnatural?
People have been using colon cleansing in some form for thousands of years. Even birds wading in the Ganges and the Nile have been observed giving themselves enemas!
Today our lives are full of things that are "not natural", preservatives in our foods, excess stress and long hours sitting behind a desk or in the car. Colon therapy can help the body relieve some of the stress of modern life.
Does it hurt?
Not usually. I have actually had clients fall asleep during their session. Sometimes excess gas may create pressure or discomfort, but many report feeling quite comfortable. To this end, I help my clients focus on breathing and relaxing, and use massage and reflexology to keep things moving comfortably, always working within the individual's comfort level.
Does it wash away the friendly bacteria?
Friendly bacteria like to live in a clean, healthy environment. The "bad guys," who cause discomfort and sometimes illness, thrive in waste. Cleansing the colon gives the "good guys" a boost by clearing out the potentially toxic material. More and more research shows that regularly taking a supplement of probiotics (the “goods guys”) helps improve the health of your intestines and your immune system.
How often do people receive colon therapy?
It is usually recommended that people start with two colonic sessions in the same week for maximum benefit. After that, it depends upon your particular situation.
Is there really old junk lining the walls of my intestines? Will a colonic remove it?
The body produces a mucus layer to protect and lubricate the large and small intestines. Some people believe that over time and under stress, mucus can build up, trapping waste with it. Usually colon therapy alone does not remove this "mucosal plaque" -- if it is present -- although many people use colon therapy in conjunction with fasting and supplements to loosen and wash away old material that they feel may be there.
